Betsy Ross Anniversary Tour with Lunch
10/15/2022 Wednesday Trip# 2022173
Today we will pay a visit, in historic Philadelphia, to the home of Betsy Ross, the maker of the first American Flag. Betsy is actually a south Jersey girl, having been born in Gloucester City on Jan 1st. 1752, Her name at the time was Elizabeth Griscom. On Nov. 4th 1773 she would become Betsy Ross when she married John Ross, again in Gloucester City. After taking a tour of her famous home on Arch St. and learning all about this famous Icon from New Jersey, we will enjoy lunch at a fine restaurant in the area.
The nearly 300-year-old narrow, winding stairs of the Betsy Ross House are not accessible to strollers, wheelchairs, walkers, or motorized scooters. For guests with mobility issues, the Museum offers a first-floor tour, which includes some walking and two steps up/down. The courtyard, including Betsy Rosss grave and a seasonal medicinal herb garden, the museum store, and exhibition gallery are all accessible. Please refer to our staff when you arrive, we are happy to accommodate any needs to ensure a fun and informative visit to our museum!
Our gift shop, gallery, and restrooms are also accessible. For those who cannot tour the house due to mobility challenges, Betsy will come out to greet you if she is able, and we offer a complimentary audio guide along with a booklet of photos of the house that you can reference while listening to the guide.
