Day One

Wednesday, June 3
Today we begin our journey to the Berkshires, located in Western Massachusetts. We will arrive at Mount Lenox just in time for a delicious picnic buffet lunch served on the terrace. The Mount is the country home of noted American author Edith Wharton, who designed the house and its grounds and considered it her "first real home." The estate has been designated a National Historic Landmark since 1971. Following lunch, we enjoy a guided tour of the home followed by free time to explore the grounds, gift shop or revisit the exhibits. Departing the estate, we will check into our hotel for the next two evenings. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (D)

Arrowhead was the home of American author Herman Melville during his most productive years, 1850-1863.
